Sinister Dexterity
an incomplete history of light
I'm not without some mixed feelings about the new tobacco legislation. From a free-speech standpoint, I have some reservations about limitations even on "commercial speech." And it is kind of an arbitrary double standard that, as someone pointed out on CNN, you can have candy-like flavors in schnapps but not tobacco.
That being said...screw you, tobacco companies. For so long you've profited from addiction and death, sucked at the teat of agricultural subsidies, burdened public and private health systems, and lied, lied, lied in the face of scientific evidence and human suffering. If you've been able to live with all that for decades, I can live with a little cognitive dissonance about what "adult" products can be flavored.

A few weeks ago, I signed up with Behance, a network/portfolio site for creative professionals. I just got an email today that my work was featured in Photography Served, an offshoot site to feature work from Behance. Even cooler, one of my sets of photos is currently the first set on the first page. I don't know if that is meant to say anything about its importance relative to other work, but it does mean that anyone who goes to this page will see the teaser for my set even if they don't go to any other pages.

My comment on this article in Willamette Week:
I like the Guerrilla Girls, and sometimes one can make a clever pseudonym in homage to a role model, but just taking someone else's name is as lazy as it is pretentious. Are you really an advocate of women's creativity when you can't even come up with your own nom de guerre?
